Finally Friday: Lip Sync Battle #2

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Friday, May 30, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (only 4.5 days of school left, planning summer vacys, and colorful sunsets from the mountain I live on)
  • _4__ Units of Caffeinated Beverages (I'm really loving fresh squeezed lime in Diet Cokies these days :)
  • __1 hour_ Spent Writing (not enough because I have an addiction to the show Scandal on Netflix)
  • _2__ Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (I read a Facebook article on the "Truth About Cancer" and felt guilty as shiz, so I went to the store and bought a butt-load of vegetables and fruit. We've had carrots, grapes, strawberries, and little mediterranean veggie sandwiches on the grill. I don't suck at this mom/cooking/wifey thing all the time...)
For many moons, my BFF (best freaking friend) and CP (critique partner), Erin Summerill, have been talking smack about having a Lip Sync Battle--inspired by our favorite movie, "Pitch Perfect" and Jimmy Fallon's epic battles on the Tonight Show. Well, we're done smack talking...and ready to start pitch slapping.

The rules are simple:
  • We both post our YouTube clips on our blogs every Friday.
  • 30 seconds minimum
  • 2 minutes maximum
  • F words are Frowned upon
  • extra points for dancing (even if I lose points for dancing like a white girl)
And you vote via the comments.

Here's mine:

Now go  to Erin Summerill's blog to see hers....

What's Up Wednesday

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Wednesday, May 28, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (new carpet, new bedroom designs, new ideas)
  • __5__ Units of Caffeinated Beverages (seriously not healthy...someone call A&E's producers from INTERVENTION)
  •    2    Hours of Writing (blog posts galore)
  • __1  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (Camembert Scooby-Doo...don't ask.)
Today, I'm participating in What's Up Wednesday- a weekly writing meme to stay in touch.

  • CHAPEL WARS by my good friend Lindsey Leavitt. No one writes quite like Lindsey. She's so witty and incredibly genuine. It's hard not to fall in love.

  • I'm finishing up my debut month blog tour but it seems like the marketing materials never end. From presentations to blog posts to emails, I feel like creativity is hard to come by these days. I vow to start writing in the mornings as soon as the kids are out of school and carpool hell ends. (It's not really hell, I'm just being melodramatic).

  • SCANDAL on Netflix. I freaking lurve that show. I can't get enough Olivia Pope. Even if her number one rule is "do not cry", and she does so almost every episode. I don't care. I'll still binge-watch three episodes in a row.
  • I got new carpet in the whole upstairs of my house, which is good because it looks great, but is bad because the house smells like carpet glue still and I feel like I've been high for three days.
  • I went to the lake this holiday weekend and went paddle boarding. So fun!
  • I baked banana bread for a new neighbor. I hope they don't die. I'm not known for my baking skills.
  • Last but certainly not freaking book trailer went live last Thursday on, you can watch it HERE.
What's up with you?

Finally Friday: The Killing Ruby Rose Book Trailer is Live

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Wednesday, May 21, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (a good batch of strawberries, massage chairs, and money showing up in my pockets and in the mail when I'm not expecting it)
  • _4__ Units of Caffeinated Beverages (oops)
  •    0    Hours of Writing (house is getting re-carpeted and we had to move the entire upstairs downstairs...yeah, that.s)
  • __1  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (I prepared a "Raclette" feast for three neighbor families: it's a bit like fondue, except you broil all the smelly French cheese in little trays that you stick under the broiler of the electric Raclette machine at the center of the table, and you dump the cheese over your baguettes, vegetables and proscuttio. I also prepared a few Quiche Lorraines, roasted sausage and onion, and Nutella crepes for dessert. My work here is done.)
I apologize that I've already cancelled week 2 of the Lip Sync Battle with Erin Summerill, but something more important came up that I need to talk about:

I'm not sure how I got so lucky to work with such amazing people from the director/filmaker, J.J. Huckin, to the actors, to my publicist, Elana Johnson, to the people at Hypable for featuring the amazingness.

If you don't want to do the extra clicking required to go to Hypable, here it is in all it's YouTube glory, the Killing Ruby Rose official book trailer:

I have to say that one of my most favorite parts of this writing journey has been the filming and production of this short film. Writing a book in the quiet of my home, rocking' the stretchy pants all day, and barely managing to comb my hair until noon, it's romantic and all ;), ....but working with a talented filmmaker, being on set in L.A., participating in casting, seeing the characters who I created come alive...MAGIC! It is by far one of the coolest things I've ever been able to do in my life.

Happy Friday ya'll.

Killer Monday: Big Announcement

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Monday, May 19, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (days spent poolside, Big Gulps, reading on my Kindle)
  • __2__ Units of Caffeinated (or otherwise non-water) Beverages (I spent the night catching up on mountains of laundry...and some much needed liquid rewards were necessary)
  • __0 hrs  Spent Writing (it's hard to write while taking post-church naps)
  • _0__  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (Sunday dinner prepared by my favorite person: Marie Calender)
My Big Announcement

So for weeks I've been holding on to some incredibly exciting stuff, and it's time to release the Kraken:

On Wednesday (May 21st) HYPABLE.COM (a huge entertainment website) is going to be releasing both:

  1.  the KILLING RUBY ROSE book trailer made by j.j. huckin; and
  2. the original RUBY ROSE song made by A Crowd of Small Adventures.

All the people who came to my book launch events were able to see the premiere of both and almost everyone since has asked how they can see or hear them again. As they say in the Bible, "the time is nigh." (I think someone said that somewhere in the Bible).

So Wednesday is the day!

Here's a freaking scary as H teaser image:

What's Up Wednesday

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (the prospect of running away, things to look forward to, and binge-watching the 6th season of Mad Men)
  • __2__ Units of Caffeinated Beverages (such a busy day, it felt like nothing was going to help but pure willpower)
  •    2    Hours of Writing (though it felt like 20)
  • __1  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (Sick kids=Campbell's soup it is!)
Today, I'm participating in What's Up Wednesday- a weekly writing meme to stay in touch.

WHAT I'M READING- Research on some legal work I'm doing and research on a presentation I am giving to my local RWA chapter (Romance Writer's of America). If you live in Vegas, make sure you come to the Green Valley Library at 10:00 am this Saturday, May 17. I'm going to be speaking on mixing thriller elements with romance. Which I'm assuming means: thriller + romance= thrilling romance= hot romance= erotica. So I'll be talking about erotica, basically! Haha, I'm TOTALLY kidding. Unless you don't want me to be kidding (and then I'm serious). But really I'm just kidding...Come find out!

WHAT I'M WRITING- My author questionnaire for Book 2 in the Ruby Rose Series, which contains the most painful of all writing exercises: a synopsis, a one-line description, and a new "about the author" section. This may not be the right time to be writing these things because I'm this dark/angsty mood where I keep saying inappropriate things (as witnessed above in re: erotica). I think it's the binge-watching of Mad Men...I'm just so pissed at Don Draper, I could kick him in his philandering crotch!

  • My team at Amazon/Skyscape. They are an amazing bunch of peeps. BIG SHOUT OUT: My publisher provided me with four Kindle Paperwhites to give away during my blog tour. These Kindles were delivered to me personally when my editor, publicist and author relations manager came to Vegas to support me during my book launch. Two of the Kindles were stolen during the after-party!! :( I might have cried, freaked out, and said the F word a couple of times-because these weren't ordinary Kindles. They were specially designed Ruby Rose Kindles, pre-loaded with Killing Ruby Rose, and with a special Killing Ruby Rose-designed cases. I tried my hand at some Ruby Rose-esque sleuthing, perusing Craigslist and eBay for the two MIA Kindles. I thought I might have found them but was met with a dead-end when the seller wouldn't return my or my friend's calls. With my tail between my legs, I admitted to my publicist at Skyscape of the loss. I half-expected to be met with the cold shoulder, perhaps a passive-agressive gripe, or maybe even an anonymous one-star review as punishment. Instead, I found a sympathetic ear and a generous hand. They are not only going to replace the Kindles, but take care of the mailing costs for the winners announced upon the completion of my blog tour at the end of the month. Cheers, Skyscape! I freaking love you guys so hard!
The Skyscape Team: Timoney Korbar, moi, Courtney Miller, Erick Pullen

  • Recuperating after all the crazy-launch madness
  • Getting excited about some upcoming events
  • Loving every second of my blog tour throughout the month of May. Today I did a guest post at FicTalk. Check it out HERE.
  • I got invited to be an extra in a movie in L.A. and I just might do it...

What's up with you?

Killer Monday: The Next Killer Thing

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Monday, May 12, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (Mother's Day, breakfast in bed--even if I now have to wash the sheets because all the kids fought over the food and it ended up in bed with me, & justification for being lazy)
  • __1__ Units of Caffeinated (or otherwise non-water) Beverages (went to Lucille's BBQ for dinner and had me a big ol' mason jar full of the sweetest strawberry lemonade...had to have been 1,000 calories by itself!)
  • __0 hrs  Spent Writing (Party's over...will get back to that this week)
  • _0__  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (I didn't even enter the kitchen on Mother's Day...all was delivered to my face)
The Next Killer Thing

So now that my big Killer Launch Party & CCSD Killer Storytelling Writing Contest is over...I've been wondering, "What the H do I do now?"

I've considered:

  • taking a "sabbatical" and living on a small Hawaiian Island for several weeks, catching up on reading and  turning my pale vampire skin into a glowing bronze
  • taking a "break" and running off to France to finish my French novel that I've been working on for over a year, while eating and drinking "for research"
  • taking a "moment" and picking up another hobby--like golf, or refinishing furniture, or professionally sleeping
The problem with these things are:
  • schools frown upon children ditching the last three weeks of school
  • I get freckly...not tan
  • one can only eat so much chocolate, pain au chocolate, and chocolate chaud
  • golf makes me angry when the ball won't go into the damn hole
  • paint fumes are dangerous
  • sleeping gets boring
So...logically, the next killer thing that I want to do is much bigger than these things anyway. Much more productive and far less self-indulgent.

What is this killer thing of which I speak?

I can't tell you yet. But you're gonna like it. Because it's for you.

But in the meantime, there's some other really killer things coming up:
  • the release of the Killing Ruby Rose book trailer/short film
  • the release of the original Ruby Rose song written and produced by the band A Crowd of Small Adventures
  • the release the extra images of Ruby and Liam on the beach
  • and much, much MORE.

What killer things do you have going on?

Finally Friday: How I Feel

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Friday, May 9, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (fresh groceries, clean sheets, happy kids)
  • _3__ Units of Caffeinated Beverages (including a fun frothy beverage made by my awesome neighbor as we brunched over banana French Toast. Yum.)
  • __0 hours_ Spent Writing (I'm giving myself a couple more days...)
  • _1__ Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (Not in the mood to fight, I asked the kids what they wanted for dinner. Answer: bacon, sausage, and pancakes. Yes, breakfast for dinner. Good times.)
So now that KILLING RUBY ROSE has been officially launched and delivered to the world, I feel....

All bright eyed.
All amazed.

Well, that's not entirely true. I also feel (or have felt):

  • vulnerable
  • hysterical
  • overjoyed
  • sensitive
  • elated
  • angry
  • tired
  • grateful
  • amazed
  • proud
  • ashamed
  • honored; and
  • thrilled
Sooo any emotions. Often contradictory. Occasionally irrational. Always intense. What a journey! And it ain't over.

What's Up Wednesday

Jessie’s Bullets: Cock It and Pull It.

Wednesday, May 7, 2014
  • __3__ Gratitudes (catching up on sleep, catching up on Game of Thrones, and catching up on life)
  • __3__ Units of Caffeinated Beverages (and they didn't help at all...because people kept telling me how "tired" I looked...)
  •    0    Hours of Writing (I'm giving myself some time off)
  • __1  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (YESSS! For the first time in weeks, I finally made a home-cooked meal and we sat down at the dinner table as a family to eat chicken, mashed potatoes w/gravy, and peas....huzzah!)
Today, I'm participating in What's Up Wednesday- a weekly writing meme to stay in touch.

WHAT I'M READING- Bad Kitty. Yes, that's right. I'm reading Bad Kitty with my kids, because I basically abandoned them for three weeks while in the throes of planning my book launch, and I owe them lots of Bad Kitty, Ivy & Bean, and I Love You Stinky Face.

WHAT I'M WRITING- Round 2 revisions for Ruby Rose #2 are done and guess what...I'm going to finish my French book (my contemporary set in France).

  • Seeing other people shine. A bunch of my fellow OneFour Debut Group friends have been releasing their books, and it's such an exciting time. For example, my pub sister, Meredith McCardle just released her awesome time travel book yesterday, THE EIGHTH GUARDIAN. You should all go buy it and give it 5 stars.

  • My book officially launched last Thursday.
  • I threw a huge launch party on Friday: two bands performed, one original Ruby Rose song was played, a murder mystery scavenger hunt went down, the Ruby Rose short film premiered, and I nearly signed my hand off. It was a magical night.
See a bunch more of pics from it HERE.

  • I threw another big shindig Saturday night: three musicians told stories and played music, I presented my English teacher from high school a bouquet of flowers for inspiring me all those years ago, and I announced the winners of my school district "Killer Storytelling Writing Contest." It was amazing.

It was a big week for me! I'm tired.

What's up with you?

Killer Monday: Book Launch Party Weekend Recap

Monday, May 5, 2014
  • __3,000__ Gratitudes (but I'll only list three: Downtown Projects, CCSD, and my book launch committee)
  • __1__ Units of Caffeinated (or otherwise non-water) Beverages (I took a 4 hour crash-nap yesterday and no amount of caffeine was going to stop that)
  • __0 hrs  Spent Writing (hah!)
  • _0__  Culinary Delights/Disasters Created With Own Hands (double hah!)

  • Magical evening.

      • Amazing time signing books.

      • Everyone had a great time.

      • The models playing Ruby and Liam were awesome. As well as my friends who won the adult part of the scavenger hunt.

      • Great music.
      Jackson Wilcox & Megan Wingerter

      Kathryn Purdie

      • Great time interacting with the crowd. (This is me asking the front row to let me know if my short dress flashes them at any point ;)

      • Great award ceremony.

      • Killer after party!

It was the time of my life! Thank you to everyone.

(Probably tons more pics to follow--these were all pictures that friends took. The professional pics by Erin Summerill and professional video footage are coming soon).
